If you missed the meeting, no worries, be sure to see Mrs. Perryman or Mr. Yencho to see what you have missed. We discussed our potential field trip to the big city of New York ! Please make sure you turn in your intent to attend form ASAP. We have also kicked off our first fund raiser, be sure to pick up that form as well.

At the meeting we also discussed the 6th graders joining the elementary Christmas musical. I am excited to say that it is a go. Auditions for “A Dickens of a Christmas” will be August 29th after school for 5th and 6th grade and August 30th for 4th grade. Call backs will be August 31st by invitation only. The show will be December 9th at 7:00 in the TES Cafeteria. The cost will be $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for students.

Watch for all of our fundraisers coming up. We need to raise money for NYC as well as for each of the shows. TES Teachers Take On A New Math Initiative

Trenton Elementary School , in conjunction with the North East Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC), undertook a new math initiative for the 2006 – 2007 school year.  Florida Students Using Mathematics Skillfully (Florida SUMS), is an exciting new math initiative modeled on the Alabama Mathematics, Science and Technology Initiative.  The goal of Florida SUMS is to deliver research based math instruction to students in an effort to increase math achievement.  Students will be taught mathematics using hands on techniques and manipulatives in order to strengthen their understanding of mathematical concepts.  Teachers from Trenton Elementary School (TES) began training during the week of June 19 – 23, 2006 at P.K. Young Developmental Research School in Gainesville .  A second training session was held August 30 and 31.

Each of these teachers participated in SUMS training.
