Policies and Procedures for Unexcused Absences and Tardies

Absences

• Students will serve one day of Saturday School for unexcused absences (regardless of number of absences per week).
• Saturday School will be held twice a month from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
• During Saturday School, students will perform work detail, complete makeup work or read, at teacher discretion.
• Administration will pull weekly attendance reports and notify parents when a child is to serve Saturday School.
• Students arriving late to Saturday School will not be permitted to serve on that day and will have to report to another Saturday School date.
• Students will be given makeup work upon returning from their absence, however the grade will be reflected as a zero until the Saturday School has been served.

Tardies

• Students will serve on Friday detention for every three tardies per teacher.
• Friday detention will be held every Friday from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m.
• During Friday detention, students will perform work detail, complete makeup work or read, at teacher discretion.
• Each teacher will submit a list of students requiring Friday detentions on Friday, so students will be contacted to serve the following Friday.
• Students arriving late to Friday detention will not be permitted to serve their detention that day.
• Students failing to appear for an assigned Friday detention will receive an office referral.
• Students may serve no more than four Friday detentions in a nine week grading period.  All subsequent tardies will result in office referrals.
