Virtual Instruction Information for Parents/Students

Virtual Instruction Program Open Enrollment for the 2018-2019 School Year

To the Parents/Guardians of Students in the Gilchrist County School District:

In accordance with Florida Statute 1002.45, the Gilchrist County School District offers students access to instruction through online learning. Eligible students in grades K-12 may participate in part-time or full-time virtual instruction.  To achieve academic success, online students must be self-disciplined, self-motivated, organized, responsible, and ready to accept the challenge of rigorous online coursework. Parents must play an active role in monitoring their child’s progress and make sure their child maintains a regimented work schedule to stay on pace.

Virtual Classes – Part Time
If you are interested in having your child take an online virtual course next school year (classes beginning in August), please contact your child’s guidance counselor.

Virtual School – Full-Time
Students enrolled full-time in Gilchrist Virtual School work from home and take all of their classes online. Students are required to maintain a full course load, and they must participate in all state assessments. Full-time virtual school students follow the school district’s academic calendar, which means they must begin and complete courses at the same time as students attending the brick and mortar schools. If you are interested in more information about full-time virtual school, please contact Mrs. Linda Gartin @ gartinl@mygcsd.org or 352-463-3207.

The open enrollment periods for full-time virtual school for the 2018-2019 school year are:
* 1st Enrollment Period (for classes beginning in August): April 9, 2018 – July 9, 2018
* 2nd Enrollment Period (for classes beginning in August): July 10, 2018 – August 31, 2018
