Community Service Opportunity for High School Students: The Salvation Army Emergency Services Board is in need of Bell Ringers at Scaffs (Bell) and at Hitchcocks (Trenton). The money the Bell Ringers raise stays in our community for the benefit of families in need. It is a festive and fun way to give back while earning community service hours. The FFA Car Wash scheduled for Saturday, 11/9 has been cancelled due to weather.
BHS would like to provide Thanksgiving food baskets to needy families, and WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are asking that if possible, students and staff bring in a food donation (listed below by grade level) and $1.00 per student/$5.00 per staff member. We will use the food items to assemble the food baskets, and use the money to purchase turkeys. Donations of food items and money are completely voluntary, however, we feel that this is a great way for us to “give back” and help others! The Gilchrist County School District will be open for students and staff on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. We will continue to monitor the path of Hurricane Dorian and stay in contact with Gilchrist County Emergency Management. Based on the information we have at this time, it is safe for us to return to school on Wednesday.

Parents - Please be on the look-out for information coming to you on Project Elephant. This project is an educational opportunity for your child and is meant to address rising rates of suicide across the nation. The initial step of this project includes a documentary called "Not Alone." The film is available on Netflix if you want to preview it before your child participates in the viewing. Project Elephant begins on Tuesday, so if you would like to opt out from your child viewing the documentary, please contact your school's Guidance Counselor by Monday.

Due to the conditions continuing to deteriorate and winds being strong late into the evening not leaving adequate time to check for road closures, schools will be closed for all Gilchrist county students and staff tomorrow, Thursday, October 11. Schools will re-open on Friday, October 12. Activities such as practice and games can resume to their normal schedule starting at 3:00pm on Thursday, October 11th.

Superintendent Rankin is working closely with the Gilchrist County Emergency Management Team tracking Hurricane Michael. The GCSD will be taking the following steps to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community: - All schools will be in session today (Tuesday, 10/9) with early release at 1:00pm - All school events after 6pm on Tuesday, Oct 9th will be cancelled - All schools will be closed for students and staff on Wednesday, Oct 10th We will make a determination about further school closures after the storm passes and we assess the damages. On Monday, the MS Ag classes learned about nutrition and health for raiding show rabbits. Jordan Olson received the FFA Small Animal Proficiency Award for Florida in 2018, and a Gold Status at Nationals. Her focus is breeding and showing rabbits for FFA . Our students were able to practice the safe and proper way to handle a show a rabbit for judging.

ATTENTION SENIORS! It's time to sign up for the 32nd Annual College Night at Florida Gateway College on Tuesday, 8/28. We will leave BHS at 4:00 PM and return at 9:00 PM. Additionally, seniors may participate in The First Annual College Day Fair in Gainesville on Thursday, 8/30 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM (BHS will transport students). Multiple colleges will be present at both events to provide seniors with information on degree options, scholarships, cost of admissions, and more. Seniors must sign up to attend in the front office.

Attention Gilchrist County Sheriffs Explorers Post 269. Explorers will meet at 10am on Saturday, May 19th at the Gilchrist County Rodeo Arena located at 4050 South US Hwy 129, Bell. Explorers will assist with the parking detail at the benefit concert to celebrate the lives of Deputy Taylor Lindsey and Sergeant Noel Ramirez. The assignment will be complete at 5pm. Bell High School Junior Class is sponsoring the Junior Senior Prom, themed "A Night Under the Stars" on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 7:00 PM-11:00 PM at the Seven Hills Farm in Gilchrist County. The Junior Class is also hosting a "Prom Promise" event to promote prom night safety on the Bell High School campus on Thursday, March 29 from 11:25-3:10.
