TITLE I, PART A – EDUCATION OF DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN AND YOUTH
Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965 as amended by the Improving America's Schools Act of 1994 provides supplemental educational services for eligible public and private school students to assist those children in acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to meet challenging student performance standards. Federal legislation has provided guidelines for the selection of schools, for the selection of students, and for parental involvement.
School Selection
Schools are ranked annually by determining the percentage of the students receiving free and reduced lunch and are given priority on the basis of the percentage of students from low income families. Title I funds may then be used to upgrade the entire school's instructional program.
Student Selection
Students attending a school designated as “School-wide” will receive delivery of Title I services based upon the individual school's needs assessment.

Parent Engagement
All participating parents are invited to attend a Title I orientation meeting, typically held in the fall and during a school improvement planning meeting to learn about the program and the role of parents in the success of their child's education. Parents are encouraged to become involved in the education of their children at home and school.
Parent's Right-To-Know
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides you as the parent of a child attending a Title I school, the opportunity to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s teacher, paraprofessional, or services provided by a paraprofessional. This information includes the following:
· Whether the teacher has met the state licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
· Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualifications of licensing criteria have been waived.
· The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification degree.
· Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals, and, if so, their qualifications.
If requested, this information will be provided to you in a timely manner.
In addition, we will provide information on the level of achievement and academic growth of your child, if applicable and available, on each of the State academic assessments required under ESSA.
We will also provide timely notice if your child has been assigned to or has been taught by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which the teacher has been assigned for four or more consecutive weeks.
SCHOOL PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY REPORTS (SPARS)
Title I schools are required to disseminate an annual school report card to parents. In addition to publishing a copy of this in the local newspaper, this report card is also made available to parents each year at the front officer of your child's school. SPARs also contain important school information for parents. Please clink below in order to access a copy of this for your child’s school. A hard copy of this report may be obtained from the district office, upon request. Please contact your school’s principal or the Title I director at (352) 463-4408 if you have any questions or concerns after reviewing this year’s information.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS
Public school districts are required to consult with private school officials in a timely and meaningful way in order to provide equitable services to private school children. For the current school year, officials from Riverside and First Place Academy private schools have not opted to participate in federal projects under ESSA. For more information or if you would like to provide input, please contact Dorota Micale at (352) 463-4408 or micaled@mygcsd.org.
OTHER PARENT INFO:
As a parent, you have the right to request parent meetings regarding Title I information. If you would like to request an informational meeting with the Title I Director, please contact the district office at (352) 463-3200.
