Gilchrist County Residents

Gilchrist County is currently transitioning to a new student registration system. Families seeking to enroll a student for May 2024 should go to their zoned school to complete a paper enrollment packet. 2024-2025 student registration, including kindergarten, will not open until the new registration system is available.

 

REGISTERING A STUDENT FOR SCHOOL

Welcome to the Gilchrist County School District. Please use the following information to guide you through the student registration process.

Step #1
Gather the required documents that will be needed for the registration process.

Birth Certificate

  • Students must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to attend Kindergarten. Students must be 6 years old on or before September 1 to attend first grade. All students new to Gilchrist County Schools must present proof of identify/age. [F.S. 1003.24(4)]

Proof of Residency

  • Documentation must be provided that you live in a home within Gilchrist County. Information regarding proof of residency is provided in Step # 3.

Child’s Social Security Number (Optional)

  • School system personnel are required to ask for this, but students are not required to have it for registration.

Florida Certificate of Immunization

  • All students entering school in Florida for the first time must have a completed Florida Certificate of Immunization (DOH 680 Form) appropriate for their grade level. [F.S. 1003.22(4)]

School Physical

  • All new students entering school in Florida for the first time must have a school health examination certificate signed by a licensed examiner (certificates must have been issued within 12 months prior to enrollment/registration & must be filled out completely on the front & backside of the form.) This is not to be confused with sports physicals. [F.S. 1003.00]

Emergency Contact List

  • Be prepared to provide the school with a list of people to contact in the event of an emergency and who may pick-up your child from school.

Provide the following, if relevant to your child:

  • Recent Individual Education Plan (IEP)

  • 504 Plan

  • Custody papers

  • Any additional information needed to properly meet your child’s needs

Step #2
Carefully review the two categories below to determine which one best describes your residential status. Once determined, you will be required to provide and complete everything listed for that category.

Category 1: Gilchrist County resident who owns and lives in their own home

  • Provide at least two (2) of the documents listed below:

    • Verification of ownership printed from the Gilchrist County Property Appraiser's website

    • Mortgage deed

    • Electric or utility bill

    • Property tax record

  • Complete an address affidavit

Category 2: Gilchrist County resident who leases/rents from or lives with someone who is a property owner in Gilchrist County

  • Complete address affidavit

    • Complete Owner /Renter Legal Resident Affidavit (must be notarized) to be completed by the actual owner of the property.

  • Provide at least two (2) of the documents listed below:

    • Verification of ownership printed from the Gilchrist County Property Appraiser's website

    • Mortgage deed

    • Electric or Utility bill

    • Property Tax Record

    • Rental Agreement

Step #3
Visit your zoned school to enroll a student with the required information.

Student and parent will meet a school administrator and guidance counselor, gain information about the new student’s schedule, and receive a welcome packet on behalf of the Gilchrist County School District.
