Read a book with your child and ask them these questions. Who was in the book? What are 3 things that happened in the story?

Activity: cut out letters from magazines, store adds, or newspaper. Match the letters or build small words with them.

Math

*Review number recognition 1-30, Oral counting 1-30, review shapes

Activity:place your foot besides your child’s foot and compare them. What are the same and different? Get a ruler or measuring tap and measure both of your feet.

Science

*Review colors, color words

Activity: Take a clear container of water outside with you and collect a small rock and leaf. The bigger the leaf, the better. Place the leaf in the water and place the rock on top to submerge it. Place the container in the sun. Leave for a few hours. Discuss with your child how plants are alive and that they require oxygen to live. After a few hours have passed, look at the leaf in the container. You should be able to see bubbles form on the leaf just like you would see bubbles rise from us if we were under water. The leaf needs oxygen and that is why these bubbles form.

Activity: On paper circles or paper plates, write a numbers 0-9, the * sign, and the # sign. Arrange the circles/plates on the wall like a phone dial pad. Teach your child their home phone number, parents cell number, or 911. Great number practice!

Science

Activity: Mix together one-part water and two-parts cornstarch. Add food coloring if you would like. Discuss liquids and solids. Is the cornstarch mixture a liquid or solid?

Activity: Kick the cup game: On 4 or 5 disposable cups, write letters that your child may not know. Get a kick ball and have the child kick the ball and hit the cup with letter that you call out.

Activity: Using a highlighter or yellow marker, write numbers 10-20. Have your child trace over them using a pencil or darker colored crayon. Have them say each number they trace.

Science

Activity: If the weather permits, go on a nature walk. Write down what things you see and draw a picture of your favorite part of the walk.

Activity: Make number flash cards with numbers 20-30 on them. Practice those numbers.

Activity: Go on a bug hunt outside. Count how many bugs you see.

Activity: Have your child count out 20 small objects.

Activity: Make unbreakable bubbles with water, corn syrup, and dish soap. If you do not have any corn syrup, mix water and soap and let them clean their toys.

In a pie pan, paper plate, or a flat surface outside gather sand to trace upper and lower case letters A-Z. Also, practice spelling aloud as you review writing a few color words below we’ve learned.

Activity: Name Hopscotch Game
Using a cereal bowl on paper trace enough circles for each letter in your child’s first name.( For more practice or introduction, you may add last name as well to the fun).Next write one letter from their name in each cut circle. Assist the child in laying them out in order .Now haveFUN! Have them hop from circle to circle saying aloud each letter, as they land spelling their name. This activity also can be enjoyed outside on a sunny day with chalk on a sidewalk .

Activity:
 Number Mix UP Game
Write numbers 1- 10 on sticky notes. Mix them up and have your child put them in order. Sticky notes are safe to use on paper, counters, walls, doors, or even the front of the refrigerator. Challenge them to get faster at putting them in order each time they play for fun.

Make a card for a friend or family member. Write words, with parents help, and/or draw a picture of what you have been doing since you’ve been out of school. Don't forget to sign your name. If you are able mail it do so and see if you get one back.

Activity: Number Shoe Matching Game
Write numbers 1-5 on masking tape and stick tape strips to the floor. Leave about 6 inch spacing between each number. On your mark, get ready, get set.... GO! Find enough shoes to match each number tape strip. For example, 1 to 1 , 2 to 2, 3 to 3 and so on......

Activity: Sponge Stamp Painting
Use old sponges around the house or they are a cheap Dollar Tree find as well. Cut sponges into different shapes for activity. Triangle, square, circle, heart shapes. Dip sponge shapes into different color paint and enjoy making shape art pictures. Review the shape names with your child as they choose them to stamp paint with.

To make your own watercolor paint use washables markers and let them sit in plastic (solo or clear) cups until color turns as desired. Take Q tips and paper. Write your upper case letters A-Z using different watercolors making rainbow letters.

Activity: Counting Hands
Trace both hands, cut out, glue just palm to another piece of paper. Leave fingers free to bend up and down to solve math problems. Fingers should all be down at the beginning of each addition problem. Solve problems below.
Example: 1( use left hand and put up one finger) + 2 ( use right hand and put up two fingers) =

(now have child count up all the paper finger up on left and right hand to solve problem)

Sensory Bins are always a classroom favorite! To make a sensory bin you need a large plastic container. You may add rice, sand, cereal, beans. Add small toys, toy cars, toy animals etc.... Add bowls, cups and tongs for scoopers and to use to pick things up with. Here’s to hours of fun. For more sensory bin ideas ( holidays, seasons, etc..) you can look on Pinterest or Google.

When out traveling at red lights or stop signs have your child count backwards from 10-0.You start with them 10,9,8,7,6...... and see if they can keep going to 0. Keep practicing at red lights and stop signs until they can count down from 10-0 on their own.

Fill a Ziplock bag full of water. Have child push a sharpened pencil half way through the bag.

Read a book with your child and ask them these questions. Who was in the book? What are 3 things that happened in the story?

Activity: Get 2 bowls, choose 2 letters then on a piece of paper cut around each letter put 1 letter in each bowl. Talk about each letter and that letter sound. Have your child find small items around the house that start with that letter.

Math

Review number recognition 1-30, Oral counting 1-30, review shapes

Count objects of your choice up to 10. Ex. Cereal, toys, leaves, rocks etc.

Take a piece of paper draw 5 circles, draw dots in each circle. On a separate sheet of paper write numbers to match dots.

This week’s expectations are minimal to help you ease into this new way of work. Next week, assignments will more closely resemble what your students were doing in class prior to the school closures.

*If your child is on Access Points, he/she will do the same assignments for this week. However, modified assignments will be provided in future weeks.
