FINANCE
The Finance Department of the Gilchrist County School Board is involved in nearly every aspect of the education system in Gilchrist County. Among the many areas we deal with are Data Processing, Budgeting, Purchasing and Bidding, Cash Management, Fixed Assets, Payroll Processing, Collective Bargaining, Student Projections, and Financial Reporting.
The Gilchrist County School Board is a member of the Northeast Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC). This is a group of small counties throughout northeast Florida. Member districts include Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Flagler, Gilchrist, Lafayette, Levy, Nassau, Putnam, Union, Hamilton and Suwannee counties. The Florida School for the Deaf and Blind and P. K. Yonge Laboratory School (University of Florida) are also member districts. The home base for NEFEC is in Palatka, Florida. The districts have pooled their resources to get the best value for their dollars. For instance, NEFEC has operated a data center since 1981. There are currently 10 members that take advantage of this service. We all share the same data center hardware, software and personnel. All of our mainframe software (Financial Accounting, Personnel/Payroll, Student Accounting, Fixed Assets, Warehouse, and Textbook systems) is housed at NEFEC. By pooling our resources, no single member district bears the full cost of operating a data center.
Budget Transparency
Section 1011.035(2), Florida Statutes (F.S.), requires school districts to present certain fiscal data on their websites for the three previous years, for the school district and each public school within the district, in the form of graphical representations. This requirement became effective July 1, 2019, as a result of the statutory amendment codified in section 12 of chapter 2018-5, Laws of Florida. Below are links to the required components.
