The BHS Debate team, led by Ms. Blakey, participated in the FCDI Regional Tournament on Saturday. Marissa L. took first in original oratory, Stella P. took second place in original oratory, and Riley W. took first place in declamation. Congratulations to all!
Bell High School AVID is excited to announce our first annual AVID College Week March 7th – 11th. This week is being designed to allow our AVID students the opportunity to showcase the AVID elective to the entire student body and recruit students to apply for the AVID elective next year. The students have been busy planning and creating activities for the week.
All week – College Spotlight each day on the announcements, decorate your door with college or career theme,
Monday, 3/7 – College Pennant/Presentation (AVID students will display information about various colleges throughout the school on pennants. AVID elective students will be doing presentations for our middle school students during their elective classes. We will provide a detailed schedule.)
Tuesday, 3/8 – Dress for Career or Success (Students can dress in shirts, ties, dresses, or as a career that they are interested in).
Wednesday, 3/9– Alumni Day and I wish a would have known (please wear your college alumni colors or shirt, and display words of wisdom on your white board in class. Things that you wish you would have known going into college).
Thursday, 3/10 – What Do I Need to Be College Ready – We will share the best AVID strategies that students use to be successful.
Friday, 3/11 – Door Decorating Contest.
We will hand out AVID applications to interested students starting Wednesday. They will be due back by Thursday, March 17th.

Celebrate National FFA Week! ~Feb. 19-26, 2022~
Each year, FFA chapters around the country celebrate National FFA Week. It’s a time to share what FFA is and the impact it has on members every day.
On Wednesday, 2/16/22, 11 BHS 911 Telecommunication students traveled to the Gilchrist County Emergency Operations Center to tour the facility and obtain their CPR certifications with Gilchrist County Emergency Management Director, Ralph Smith. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Joel Rowe, GCFR Medical Director, who came and spoke with the students during CPR.
On Thursday, 2/17/22, Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office K-9 handlers came to BHS to do a K-9 demonstration for Mrs. Jones’ 8th and 9th grade Criminal Justice classes. We appreciate the deputies for taking the time to come up to BHS with their K-9 partners and talking to the students and answering their questions.

On 2/10/22, 33 of the BHS Criminal Justice Academy students traveled to Cabana Bay Beach Resort in Orlando to compete in the North Florida Alliance Leadership Training against Newberry High School. The students were able to participate in 14 different events and 1 team building event which combined both Bell High School and Newberry High School by grade level.

Bell High School Juniors and Seniors traveled to Lake City on Friday to participate in the Florida Gateway College Experience Day.
Tony Award winning playwright, poet, and author Lemon Andersen visited BHS on Wednesday to speak with the High School English honors students from both THS and BHS. He discussed the writing process and offered a Q and A. This was a great opportunity for our HS English Honors students!

Softball tryouts for middle, JV, and Varsity will be Tuesday, 1/25 and Wednesday, 1/26 at 3:30 at the BHS David J. Halter Field. Students must have a current sports physical to tryout.
