Bell Middle School 7th Graders had the amazing opportunity to visit Tallahassee and tour our state Capitol Building, visit the Florida Supreme Court, and tour the Old Capitol Museum. Students also had the privilege of meeting and speaking with our State Representative, Chuck Clemons. Some students were even able to sit in on a general session of the Florida House of Representatives and hear current legislation be debated. This trip was an excellent opportunity to make real life connections to the concepts and standards covered in our 7th Grade Civics course.

Due to the impending winter storm scheduled to move through our area tomorrow, all GCSD schools and the district office will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 9th. All extra-curricular activities and travel have also been canceled. Schools will reopen and all normal activities will resume on Wednesday, January 10th.

Happy New Year from Bell Middle High School! We hope that everyone is having a wonderful break! As a reminder, school will resume for all GCSD students on Thursday, 1/4/24.

On Friday night, Bell Middle High School welcomed a special, distinguished guest, a resident of Gilchrist County who has a prestigious past in the great game of soccer!
Joining us at midfield was Dietrich Albrecht, who is a retired American soccer player. Mr. Albrecht spent six years as a professional soccer player from 1965 – 1971, one season in the National Professional Soccer League, and two in the North American Soccer League.
Mr. Albrecht also played nine times with the United States National Team in 1968 and 1969. His first caps came in a 4–0 loss to Israel on September 25, 1968. He scored two goals a month later in a 6–3 victory over Haiti. His third goal with the national team came a week later he scored in a 1–0 victory over Canada in a World Cup qualification game. Mr. Albrecht has stated that one of his most memorable moments was competing against Pele, who is widely regarding as one of the greatest soccer players of all time, and scoring a goal to beat Pele’s team.
BMHS was honored to have a former member of the United States National Team present with us Friday night, and presented Mr. Albrecht with an “Honorary Gilchrist County Soccer Alumni” plaque.
